Differin® Gel (30g)

What is Differin® Gel (30g)?

Differin® Gel contains Adapalene 0.1%, a third-generation topical retinoid (a vitamin A derivative) used for the treatment of acne. It is particularly effective for comedonal acne (blackheads and whiteheads) and inflammatory acne.

Compared with other topical retinoids, adapalene generally causes less dryness, redness, peeling, and irritation, making it a popular first-line treatment for acne-prone skin.

How to Use

• Frequency: Apply once daily at bedtime.
• Amount: Apply a thin layer over the entire acne-prone area or the whole face as directed by your dermatologist.
• Avoid: The eyes, eyelids, lips, corners of the nose, and other sensitive areas.
• Application: Cleanse your face, allow the skin to dry completely, apply your moisturizer if recommended, then apply a thin layer of Differin® Gel.

Important Precautions

• Sun Protection

Adapalene increases your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every morning and limit excessive sun exposure.

• Initial Acne Flare (“Purging”)

During the first 1–2 weeks, some patients may notice an increase in breakouts. This temporary reaction, commonly called skin purging, occurs as clogged pores are brought to the surface. Continued use is recommended, and noticeable improvement is typically seen within 6–8 weeks.

• Avoid Combining with Other Irritating Products

Unless advised by your dermatologist, avoid using Differin® together with products containing:

• • • • Salicylic Acid
      • Benzoyl Peroxide
      • Strong exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs)
      • Other topical retinoids

Combining these products may increase skin irritation.

Additional Tips

If you have very sensitive skin:

• You may mix a small amount of Differin® Gel with your moisturizer (approximately a 1:1 ratio) during the first few weeks to reduce irritation.
• If redness or peeling becomes excessive, you may apply the medication for 30 minutes before washing it off, then gradually increase the contact time as tolerated.
• Always follow your dermatologist’s recommendations.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Do not use Differin® Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Although systemic absorption is minimal, adapalene is not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risk to the developing baby.

If you are planning to become pregnant, it is generally recommended to stop using adapalene at least one month before conception and consult your dermatologist for alternative acne treatments.

Possible Side Effects

Some users may experience:

• • Mild redness
  • Dryness
  • Peeling
  • Tightness
  • Temporary burning or stinging sensation

These effects are usually temporary and improve as your skin adjusts to the medication.
